Mass shooting/violence

The recent mass shootings are the visible symptoms of feelings of increasing desperation and discontent on the part of the American public. They have lost faith in its forum, the ability to be heard, and the opportunity to make a difference. Originally our government was designed to listen to and serve the needs of the people. Now the people are expected to answer to the government; they feel like their voice has been lost. This sense of loss of personal power is reflected in increasing violence— violence in Iran, violence in our schools, and violence on our streets.

All of these are an outcrop of a failure to value the individual’s opinion and/or plight. From the uni-bomber to the shooter in Orlando, each wanted their opinion to be acknowledged. The answer lies in providing a new type of forum available to express all levels of concern. Public radio is this kind of available resource. In a small way, it can provide “everyday” people speaking their piece, rather than some commentator voicing some pollster’s opinion. How about network TV? The Internet?

How can we make the government more responsive?

Oh by the way,
VIOLENCE IS NOT AN ADDICTION! IT IS DIRECTLY LINKED TO DESPERATION AND THE SURVIVAL INSTINCT!
